VISION
AND MISSION OF THE ORGANIZATION
The
vision of the organization is "to
try an approach to development through
which rural people, especially women and
disadvantaged groups, become partners
rather than the subjects and/or objects.
We want to nurture their confidence in
their own capabilities as they make decisions
for themselves and take action as they
see fit."
We
have found that when rural people begin
to recognize their rights and the possibilities
open to them, they don't hesitate to use
these systematically for their own transformation.
Thus, WATCH's mission is "to move
away from the "hand-out" mode
of development in favor of facilitating
the organization people for self-reliance
and sustainable development. WATCH does
not view itself or its staff as 'change
agents' or 'development experts' in the
traditional sense, but rather as facilitators
of the development process."
